Vinyl is popular here for a simple reason: it never needs paint, and it shrugs off the moisture that rots wood. The catch is that it only performs as well as it is hung. We have 15+ years of experience and 300+ projects behind us, and we install vinyl the way it is designed to move.
Why choose vinyl siding for a Capital Region home?
Our climate swings from below zero in January to humid, ninety degree days in July. Vinyl handles that range well when it is installed with room to expand and contract, because it cannot absorb water, swell, or rot.
- Freeze-thaw cycles: vinyl does not hold water, so it does not split from ice forming inside the material.
- Heavy snow and ice: snow piled against lower courses will not rot the siding, though we keep the bottom edge properly clear of grade.
- Summer humidity: vinyl will not grow mold inside the board or peel like paint.
- Wind-driven rain: a correctly lapped house wrap and flashing behind the vinyl carries off any water that gets past the panels.
Insulated vinyl adds a foam backer that stiffens the panel and helps it lie flat on uneven older walls. Our insulated vinyl siding guide explains when it is worth the upgrade.
How does vinyl compare to other siding materials?
Vinyl is usually the lowest upkeep option. Compared with James Hardie fiber cement siding, it is lighter and never needs painting, but it is less rigid and can crack from a hard impact in deep cold. Compared with LP SmartSide engineered wood, it gives up some of the wood look in exchange for zero repainting.

What Capital Region homeowners say
Rated 5 stars by homeowners and business owners across the Capital Region. Read all reviews.
“My wife and I recently hired Mastaba Homes after some high winds partially tore back our sidings fascia. They were prompt in responding to our online submission (received a phone call in less than 15 mins, after business hours), and …”
“Jeff and his crew recently replaced our roof and are in the process of installing new window and siding on our home. The crew was in and out in one day and aside from the new roof, you couldn't tell anyone was there. Very professional, attentive, and fairly priced. Can't wait until the board and batten and new windows are up! I recommend to give them a call or email if interested in some renovations.”
“Great experience with Mastaba Roofing. The team was professional, on time, and delivered quality work. They explained everything clearly, worked efficiently, and left the place very clean. The whole process was smooth and stress-free. I would definitely recommend them for reliable roofing or home exterior work.”
How do we install vinyl siding?
1. Inspection and written estimate
We measure every wall, check the sheathing for soft spots, and look at the roof line, gutters, and trim. You get a written estimate with profile, color, and accessory options.
2. Tear off and sheathing repair
We remove the old siding down to the sheathing in most cases, because that is the only way to find hidden rot. Damaged boards are replaced before anything new goes up.
3. House wrap and flashing
House wrap is lapped from the bottom up so water always flows outward. Windows and doors get flashing tape, and every roof-to-wall joint gets step and kick-out flashing.
4. Panels, trim, and accessories
Panels are nailed in the center of the slots, not driven tight, so they can slide as temperatures change. We install corners, J-channel, and starter strip, then finish soffit and fascia. If yours are damaged, our soffit and fascia repair team handles it in the same visit.
5. Cleanup and walkthrough
We haul away debris, run a magnet over the yard for nails, and walk the house with you before we call it done. Our vinyl siding installation guide covers each step in more depth.
What are the signs your vinyl siding needs replacing?
- Panels that are cracked, brittle, or have holes from hail or impacts.
- Warping or buckling, often a sign of panels nailed too tight.
- Severe fading that makes repairs impossible to blend.
- Loose panels that rattle or blow off in storms.
- Peeling paint or soft spots on interior walls, which can mean moisture behind the siding.
- Rising heating bills with drafts along exterior walls.
A few damaged panels can often be fixed. Our siding repair service replaces sections and matches color where the original product is still available.
What affects the cost of vinyl siding?
Price depends on the size of your home, the number of stories, and how much trim work is needed around windows, doors, and corners. Thicker panels, insulated vinyl, and specialty profiles such as shakes or board and batten cost more than standard lap siding.
Removal of old layers, sheathing repairs, and any new soffit and fascia also affect the total. We provide a free written estimate so you know exactly what is included before work begins.
What warranty and financing come with vinyl siding?
Every vinyl siding job is backed by our 10 year workmanship warranty. Manufacturer warranties vary by product, and we explain the terms and register them on your behalf.
We offer $0 down financing up to 140 months, subject to credit approval, so you can spread out the cost of a full replacement.

Vinyl Siding Installation in Albany NY and the Capital Region: frequently asked questions
Does vinyl siding crack in cold weather?
Vinyl becomes stiffer in deep cold, so a hard impact from a ball, ladder, or chunk of ice can crack it. Properly installed vinyl with room to move does not crack from temperature changes alone. Insulated vinyl adds a foam backer that makes panels more impact resistant.
What is insulated vinyl siding, and is it worth it?
Insulated vinyl has rigid foam bonded to the back of each panel. It stiffens the siding, helps it lie flat on uneven walls, and adds some insulation. Whether it is worth the extra cost depends on your walls and goals, and we will tell you honestly during your estimate.
Can vinyl siding be painted?
It can, but it requires paint formulated for vinyl and a color that is not much darker than the original, because dark colors absorb heat and can warp the panels. In most cases, replacing faded vinyl is the better long term choice. We can walk you through both options.
How should I clean vinyl siding without damaging it?
A soft brush, mild soap, and a garden hose handle most dirt and mildew. Avoid pressure washing upward under the laps, because that drives water behind the siding. Work from the bottom up when scrubbing and rinse from the top down.
Will a grill or reflected sunlight warp my vinyl siding?
Yes, concentrated heat can distort vinyl. Keep grills well away from the wall, and be aware that sunlight reflected from some energy efficient windows on neighboring homes can cause localized warping. If a panel warps, it can usually be replaced on its own.
Can new vinyl be installed over existing siding?
It is sometimes possible, but we usually recommend removing the old layer. Tearing off lets us inspect and repair the sheathing, install proper house wrap and flashing, and keep trim lines correct around windows and doors. Covering problems tends to trap moisture.
